In the wake of Thibaut Courtois’ unfortunate ACL injury, Real Madrid has begun exploring alternative goalkeeping options and has already reached out to representatives of David De Gea. The Spanish goalkeeper is currently a free agent after his departure from Manchester United earlier this summer.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid is also keeping a close watch on Kepa Arrizabalaga’s situation. The talented Chelsea goalkeeper has caught the attention of Bayern Munich, who are considering a loan-to-buy arrangement.

Courtois, the accomplished Belgian international, sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury to his left knee during a training session. In light of this setback, he is scheduled to undergo surgery in the upcoming days. Courtois, who joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in August 2018, has made a substantial impact with over 200 appearances for the club.

However, the club is considering David De Gea as a potential replacement for Courtois. De Gea, having spent 12 successful seasons at Manchester United, recently bid farewell to Old Trafford after a total of 545 appearances, making him the club’s most prolific goalkeeper in terms of matches played. Notably, he also surpassed Peter Schmeichel’s clean sheet record during his tenure and achieved a remarkable 190 shut-outs across all competitions.

Under the guidance of manager Erik ten Hag, De Gea held his position as Manchester United’s No. 1 goalkeeper following Ten Hag’s arrival from Ajax last summer. De Gea’s exceptional performance earned him the prestigious Golden Glove award for securing the most clean sheets in the Premier League last season.

Reflecting on De Gea’s departure, Ten Hag commented, “To have played a single game for Manchester United requires exceptional quality and character. To achieve this feat 545 times over 12 years, especially in the demanding goalkeeper role, is a truly remarkable accomplishment that places you under constant scrutiny and pressure.”
